Who Is Right? The Guru Complex
THE BIG PICTURE -
Our species is currently undergoing a profound evolutionary transformation, one that holds the potential to elevate our consciousness to such a degree that it can bring an end to wars and enable us to reconnect with our true essence as energetic beings on a physical journey. This remarkable era, known as the Age of Aquarius, is poised to facilitate deep healing at subconscious, cellular, and ancestral levels. As we venture into this new dimension of existence, we may find ourselves inundated with messages on how to achieve enlightenment and draw closer to this reality.
MODERN SPIRITUALITY -
Every week, it seems I stumble upon a new spiritual teacher, and the sheer abundance of such guides is awe-inspiring. I revel in the fact that numerous luminaries are emerging, encouraging us to embark on a profound introspection and engage with our most authentic selves. However, it is important to remain cognizant of the potential pitfalls of the "guru complex." Often, these teachers hope that we will wholeheartedly embrace their worldview, regarding their system as an absolute truth, and diligently follow their prescribed path to achieve success. And we can hardly blame them if their system has proven effective.
Nonetheless, I firmly believe that there is no single, exclusive method to expand our consciousness and activate our healing potential. As individuals, each with our unique pasts and paths, we require personalized approaches that resonate with our individual experiences. Ultimately, we discover that we possess the innate ability to heal ourselves. The most remarkable teachers, healers, and mentors will grasp this fundamental truth and guide us back to our own inner essence.
SEEING IT PLAY OUT -
Allow me to illustrate how one can create a personalized practice by drawing inspiration from two of my favorite teachers. One espouses the belief that our thoughts and words possess the power to shape our reality. According to this perspective, every word and thought we utter either blesses or curses ourselves, gradually manifesting as our lived experience. On the other hand, the other teacher suggests that our thoughts and words hold little consequence. Negative thoughts or self-harming utterances, according to her, do not have the power to manifest. Instead, she contends that our reality is shaped by the subconscious beliefs we hold about our self-worth. This dichotomy presents a complex and nuanced inquiry into the mechanisms of manifestation and creation. Understanding it fully may necessitate a process of experimentation and exploration, unique to each individual. Ultimately, each person must contemplate and explore this question for themselves, as it is a deeply personal and subjective journey.
Through attentive introspection and the guidance of my intuition, I have discovered the wisdom in incorporating elements from both teachings. I approach my words and thoughts with utmost intentionality, observing firsthand how they influence the trajectory of my life depending on their positivity or negativity. I have come to recognize that my body instantaneously responds to self-harming thoughts, potentially paving the way for dis-ease. Simultaneously, I engage in hypnotherapy and meditation to reprogram my subconscious mind, acknowledging that my thought patterns and speech are intrinsically linked to my subconscious beliefs.
Similar examples abound when it comes to nutrition advice. Some individuals passionately advocate for veganism, while others staunchly support a paleo diet. Once again, there is no singular path that applies universally.
While our cherished teachers offer us invaluable tools for healing, it remains vital for us to remember that we possess the wisdom to discern what works best for our own lives. We each possess a unique vantage point, shaped by our individual experiences, which colors our perception of the world. I constantly remind myself to avoid preaching and dictating behavior to others, as I am continuously learning and expanding my own understanding. Trusting oneself and relying on our intuition serves as a reliable compass, guiding us through the cacophony of voices. In the pursuit of a higher frequency and a more fulfilling existence, there exists no absolute right or wrong—only a journey towards embracing what resonates as truth.
