'Becoming'

Greetings Loved Ones,

We're back at it again with a 'Self Care Sunday'. I’ve just returned from a camping trip with my sister and my dad - my two best friends. Every year, we head up to northern Maine for a long weekend of total nature immersion. This year, we stayed on a remote island on Moosehead Lake where my Godmother’s camp sits. It’s where I learned to swim..where my mom got her pilot’s license and where my dad had some wild hunting adventures (only birds, which we ate). It’s also where an infamous picture of me was taken...13 years old on a four-wheeler, with eyebrows nearly plucked off and red hair.

We come back to this place to reflect, reconnect with our truest nature, and spend some much needed quality time together. As my dad put it, it’s our ‘food for the soul’.

We did a lot of reading on the trip, and I’m feeling especially inspired by Michelle Obama's book, Becoming. If you’re looking for a good read, please pick this book up OMG. I couldn’t take my eyes off of the pages - zipped through half the book in two days. The reoccurring message so far is: “you can always get ahead by putting in more time, asking for help, pacing yourself and not procrastinating.” A reminder that there are no shortcuts in life. While this is true, there is always some kind of unpredictable 'x' factor that arises at one point or another...but the aforementioned practices are sure to help you along the way.

Furthermore, I now understand the absolute urgency for each and every one of us to VOTE in the next election. Our vote matters more than we know. I am embarrassed to say that last year I didn’t vote, simply becuase I didn’t believe in the government (whatever that means). I didn’t believe my vote would make any kind of difference - that it was all rigged anyway. That kind of ridiculous mentality among myself (and many of us) is a huge part of what elected Trump. Food for thought....major change ahead.
