5 Self-Care Activities

When I was a tiny tot, I remember being bored a lot… constantly in need of an idea to keep me occupied. My mom had this awesome card deck for kids with ideas of fun things to do (which she was swift to give my sister and me whenever we started to fuss and whine). It was brilliant. We especially loved being prompted to build forts or re-arrange our bedrooms or play teacher.

Now that I’m in my 20’s, while I don’t get ‘bored’ anymore, I do need to make time for myself away from work, my phone (!), or even passion projects. We all need that time and space to simply enjoy being alive without responsibility or stimulation. Perhaps this list below can serve as the card deck did when I was a kid. When you’re ready to give yourself some “me time”, here are five ideas for you:

  1. Take a long walk without your phone. No, you won’t die. You can text your friends and tell them you’re going to be offline for a little while haha…but seriously

  2. Take a bath with candles, essential oils, classical music, and an icy drink. I’ve been listening to Erik Satie recently and it’s been pretty life-changing tbh.

  3. Draw…bonus points if you use colored pencils! I like to just look at my saved folder on IG and pick an image to copy if I need inspo.

  4. Sit in front of the mirror for 5-10 minutes and give yourself compliments. Get to know yourself!

  5. Dance. When did we stop dancing?? Sometimes when I dance around my room, I start crying out of pure joy because the movement brings up beautiful release and relief. Here’s a link to my ‘Feel Goods’ playlist.

In a world that pushes us to be competitively ‘productive’ at every moment… give yourself permission to exit the matrix and tap into just being! We did not incarnate on this beautiful Earth to just work and die. Take care of your mental and spiritual wellbeing. At the end of the day, that’s the most productive thing you can do. I love you.
