A Mindful Rising Routine

How often do you find yourself either leaping out of bed in a panic or pressing the snooze button to avoid facing the day for just a liiittle longer? I’ve been there and I still have those days to be honest. However, giving myself a morning routine has given me something to look forward to every day and keeps me calm and centered as I rise. Someone recommended recently that I change the word morning to rising instead because ‘morning’ is associated with grief…makes sense to change it since we know words resonate with us on a subconscious level!

Here we go. This is my rising routine on an ideal day:

  1. I always always make my bed. I’m sure you’ve heard this tip, but I’ll remind you :) Making your bed first thing in the morning gives you a sense of accomplishment, thus boosting your confidence and carrying that vibration into the rest of the day. You can take it a step further and just organize your whole room a little bit!

  2. Stand outside in the sun and take ten deep breaths. Getting that initial hit of vitamin D feels so so good and has been proven to lower blood pressure, improve wakefulness and sleep, promote eye health, heal skin conditions, etc. The more direct contact we can have with nature, the better.

  3. Say a prayer of gratitude in advance. Yup, in advance! I think of how my day will ideally go, and then express gratitude as if it already happened.

  4. Review goals for the day, month, and year. I make sure that my daily task list is in line with the bigger picture of life and that I’m working toward long-term goals with each item. This is a good time to look at your vision board!

  5. Make celery juice. I’ve been drinking celery juice every morning for the past month or so mostly to improve my complexion, but it has so many other benefits. Making this juice while I listen to my favorite podcast is a way of showing love to my body.

    • I’ve also stopped drinking coffee in the morning to reduce inflammation and make sure I’m not too high-strung. It’s incredible how much my energy has changed since cutting it out, and how much calmer I feel. I just drink decaf in the afternoon and the taste alone satisfies that coffee craving.

  6. Connect with friends and family. It’s not a normal start to the day if I haven’t received something hilarious from my sister. Family is everything to me (can you tell I’m a Cancer sun…lol), and connecting with them keeps me grounded.

  7. Stretch! Even just a little bit. It’s amazing how stiff our bodies can be after a deep sleep.
