5 Activities That Will Instantly Raise Your Vibration

This human experience is a journey through endless peaks and valleys, but if we can enter the valleys with a sense of curiosity instead of dread, we can start to flow instead of struggle. While it’s inevitable that we’ll experience heavy emotional times, we can choose to be explorers - and explorers need tools!

These have served as tools for me when the going gets a little more treacherous:
Listening to classical music
Recently, Erik Satie has been my go-to composer. I love classical (and choral music) because it’s a form of organized chaos. All of these moving parts and wildly different sounding instruments are somehow brought together in harmony to tell a story through sound. Classical music brings me out of my head and into my heart, and in a way, connects me to source energy because I can hardly comprehend how humans are capable of producing such beauty.
On a biological level, listening to classical music has been shown to reduces stress, improve memory, improve sleep, lower blood pressure, and even contribute to higher emotional intelligence.
Stretching
Emotions and stagnant energy are often stored in the body. Have you ever done ‘pigeon’ in yoga (or any hip opener) and found yourself on the verge of tears? The hips are associated with the root chakra, so the emotions we release with a hip opener are often related to the fight or flight responses and feelings of safety.
Stretching in any capacity works to balance our chakras and ease us into a place where we can process our feelings deeply. Next time you need a pick-me-up, pull out your yoga mat!
Freewriting
This is another form of organized chaos. Freewriting can help us actually identify what we are struggling with and what neurological patterns are looping in our minds.
Set your timer for 5 or 10 minutes and just write with no agenda - write down anything and everything that passes through your mind and then observe what comes through. Once you see everything on paper, it’s not so daunting! It’s like venting to a friend but perhaps even more healing since you’re validating yourself without relying on external help.
Sitting in direct sunlight
Most of us are simply not getting enough Vitamin D! Think of yourself like a house plant - we are wired to absorb sunlight and photosynthesize in our own (human) way. People typically experience seasonal depression because of lack of sunlight, and this can totally be avoided! Sunshine boosts your body’s level of serotonin, which is a chemical that improves your mood and helps you stay calm and focused.
Getting enough sunshine is like drinking enough water and eating enough veggies! It’s like putting gas in your car!
Vocal toning
In our society, being loud and making funny noises is typically not embraced, but it’s a powerful form of release! Maybe this is why we all love going to concerts and singing our little hearts out - it’s a socially acceptable form of expressing ourselves with sound.
Next time you need a lift, inhale and then vocally exhaleeeee with an ‘ahhhhh’! You could even scream into a pillow! And for a longer practice, you could engage in mantra or chanting.
FEEL YOUR FEELINGS -
While all of these tools are beautifully helpful and activating - it’s also important to remember that it’s necessary to somatically feel and honor the denser emotions. Hopefully, the aforementioned practices will serve as enhancements when you are ready and not forms of spiritual bypassing. No matter what you’re going through right now.. whatever ‘valley’ you may be in - your experience is valid and important for this chapter of your life. The next peak is coming soon.
