A Guide To Lucid Dreaming

DREAMS ARE A PORTAL

Dreamwork is one of the most powerful portals we possess for transformation and self-discovery. When I first learned how to lucid dream, my consciousness expanded in a way that was deeply healing and exhilarating - it solidified in a very real way that we are spirits having a physical experience. Lucid dreaming allows us to separate our consciousness from the physical body, and experience different dimensions while still being able to experience the full range of emotion and even physical sensations (which is fascinating).

I believe the ability to dream is a gift that we are born with to keep us connected to our soul essence - a gateway that allows us to surpass time and space so that we don’t forget who we really are. So many of us have lost touch, and are out of practice, with the ethereal realms.. especially the Western world. I think it has so much to do with the rise of technology and capitalism which has triggered a mass amnesia around what we are capable of. But I know that you and I both sense a massive shift occurring… a remembering…an awakening indeed. We are remembering our innate gifts, wisdom, and power; and the dream world is a profound resource for us.

TRIGGERING A LUCID DREAM

Like with anything, lucid dreaming requires intention and practice - be patient with yourself as you work your way up to it. The practice also requires upkeep, it’s not a ‘one-and-done’ kind of deal. So! With that being said, here are the techniques that I return to when I wish to experience a lucid dream:

  1. Write down your dreams every morning immediately upon waking. If you don’t do it right away, you are sure to forget or only remember small fragments. Write down as much detail as you can.

  2. Ask yourself a few times per day “Am I dreaming?” And when you ask the question:

    • Look at your hands

    • Look in a mirror

    • Look at a clock

    • Or push against a wall to test the solidity

These tricks will eventually prompt you to test the practices in a dream which could trigger lucidity. Looking at your hands, at clocks, or at mirrors works well because they always look different in the dream world. Your hands and body will often look morphed and clocks always have settings that don’t make sense. Set reminders on your phone to do it!

  3. Napping in the middle of the day is the best time to trigger a lucid dream. It’s like our body knows that it’s a strange, yet intentional, time to be sleeping so our consciousness can explore more freely.

  4. Before you go to sleep, set the intention to wake up in your dream.

  5. Avoid smoking, drinking, or eating too much well before you go to sleep so that you can have a clear channel.

Happy dreaming! Let me (us) know in the comments what you discover in the dream world and how these tips help you. And remember, be patient and diligent with the above practices! You’ll get there, and when you do it will be beautifully rewarding.
